Summer Time and You Dog’s Comfort is Important and Not Always Easy

I was at a flea market yesterday selling items as we continue to clear out a house. I had a good view of the many people who came with their dogs. I love that people want to include their dogs in activities. But so many dogs were too hot – I offered water to many who lapped eagerly. Too many dogs on flexi leashes with no control by owners. And too many dogs with prongs, choke collars or just a plain collar that was being yanked on their fragile necks. I did ask one owner of a senior cane corso – “does she really need that prong?” He replied “yes, she might bite!” Uh so why was she there? And really guys it only makes matters worse.
Please get a well fitted front clip harness – hooray there was one dog there that walked nicely on one! Better yet, attach your regular or martingale collar with a carbiner or double-ended leash to your harness and have double safety.
Many dogs meeting on leashes – one puppy I viewed was going in reverse as older dog approached – owner oblivious as pup lifted lip – I held my breath but fortunately the older’s dog owner moved on.
Please enjoy your dogs safely, attentively and in comfort for both your sakes!
